Oh My Goodness!!!
If you have picked up anything, anything at all from this blog it would be these three things:
1. I love ALL things fairy tale.
2. I would like to become a writer someday.
3. I absolutely adore Fredrik Backman's books!
So, when I saw on Backman's Facebook page that he is going on tour for his newest book releasing later this month, I was over the moon happy! I had seen a virtual tour that he did last year for the release of Anxious People and it was so very good. He was gracious enough to give the reader insight into his mind and what makes him the great writer that he is. Although I would love, love, love to attend this time around, it just isn't in the cards for me to be there in person.
Backman is not a huge fan of touring and promoting his work. It causes him anxiety to be away from home and travel. Pretty ironic seeing that his books weave beautiful stories around very anxious characters. Maybe that could be an idea for a future book? As I've mentioned previously, he is quite open about his feelings and apologizes for not making it to more cities...
"I'm sorry. It's a short tour because I'm just not a functional human
being if I'm away from home longer than this. I won't go to any other
countries this year, I need to write more books and walk my dog and
drive my kids to stuff."
I think I can speak for most of Fredrik Backman's fans and say a few things. Please take care of yourself first, always! Please take care of your family, first as well. Don't worry a bit about us being disappointed because we aren't. We would much rather you be healthy and happy and continue to write than to cause you any distress about feeling the need to promote your work.
Your work stands alone and does not need promoting 💜
Your true fans have your best interests at heart and understand.
That being said, I am still going to get to attend virtually as he was gracious enough to make that an option for a few of the events! Squee!! Words simply won't express how happy this makes me! I am now re-reading the second of the Beartown trilogy, Us Against You, getting ready to read The Winners.
I know you will never read this Mr. Backman, but, if you do, thank you from the bottom of my anxious little heart for all that you do. Nobody writes these types of stories better.
